Hello, I’m Beth Boynton and the founder of Boynton Improv Education. I am the author of several books on communication and leadership and the industry-first book on Medical Improv.
I offer train the trainer programs for healthcare leaders on how and why YES AND can be used as an effective teaching modality. And additional team development and mindfulness workshops through collaborations with professionals at ImprovTalk and Korabek Training .
Medical Improv Focus
You’ll see a strong focus on Medical Improv here. That’s because I have seen over and over again that improv experiences, when facilitated properly, are an effective teaching modality for the interactive soft skills that healthcare professionals and teams need. Skills which are hard to develop, yet essential for critical outcomes such as patient safety, patient experience, workforce health and wellbeing, and cost-effectiveness!
While much of my writing and some programming is independent, I enjoy two unique and dynamic collaborations.
ImprovTalk
One is with Corporate Trainer, Ellen Schnur and Former Major League Baseball Player, Jim Mecir of ImprovTalk. Together we draw on decades of experience in healthcare, corporate training, organizational development, teamwork, Major League baseball and improv to create Impact Medical Improv Toolkits. These toolkits are created for healthcare staff, leaders, students, and faculty in a variety of programming including skill-building and train the trainer. We launched a pilot workshop during Covid to help explain to healthcare leaders, how effective Medical Improv can be. You can watch a 14 min video with highlights here.
Korabek Training
My other collaborative partner is Certified Mindfulness Teacher, Liz Korabek-Emerson, MFA. We combine improv and mindfulness experiences to help people become more present and promote interactive soft skill development. Workshops such as “The Gift of Presence” described in this Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center notice, promote skillful communication even under pressure. You might enjoy watching us play an improv activity called “Word-At-A-Time Story“. Consider the teaching and learning possibilities this activity might offer!
