A few months ago, Social/Community Worker, and Founder of Let the Girl Be (LEGIBE) – Uganda, David Kawanuka Naggenda reached out to ask if I would do an online session for the courageous young women of LEGIBE. (Yes!)

Let The Girl Be Uganda (LEGIBE) is a registered non-profit with the government of Uganda. The organization aims to empower vulnerable girls in Uganda through education and health. Girls who are often left vulnerable, exposed to STIs and HIV, and are sometimes pregnant. Many have had traumatic experiences involving physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.

I thought it would be great to offer a confidence-building activity. At first I thought I would do “Sound Ball” which is a great way to promote confidence, is fun, and transcends language differences. Plus it can it can easily and quickly be taught online.

However, a live, online session was problematic. We kept running into challenges with tech, power outages, and time zone issues. Hmmmmm, what to do? How to help?

From a Medical Improv perspective, the question arises; Is it possible to promote experiential learning remotely and asynchronously?

After discussing with some colleagues and David, “The Confident Voice Project” was born. An experiment aimed to increase confidence and generate funds for the girls and women at LEGIBE.

Please enjoy watching the video where we teach the girls an activity called, “Finding My Confident Voice”!

Now watch Gertrude, Marion, Patricia, Praise, Beyonce, Maureen and Husna of LEGIBE as they lean in to the lesson.

We wait for Part II where the girls and young women of LEGIBE send us a video of them doing the activity!

I’m very excited to see what they do with the activity and will let you know in a subsequent post. I hope you are inspired by the experimental possibilities of this experiment and will consider a donation of any size!

Your donations will help LEGIBE purchase materials for the girls to craft and create with,  hygiene products, books, and educational supplies, materials for infants and children the girls have been left to raise, and most importantly they pay for the girls’ tuitions.

The best way LEGIBE to receive funds is through their bank account using info below. If you donate, please let David know via email so he can check their bank and thank you. Or if you have and questions, David can be reached: letthegirlbeuganda@gmail.com!

Special thanks to Liz Korabek-Emerson, Angelynne Hinson, & Susan Poulin!

Stay tuned for the culmination of this experiential experiment! 🙂
